AIM:

The aim of this project is to implement library management system by maintaining database for issuing and returning of books. 

PURPOSE:

The main objective of this Project is to use the BARCODE reader as a secured token to issue the books in the Library.

DESCRIPTION:

A BARCODE Reader is attached into the book with the relevant information like book name, book number etc. The detailed information regarding the book is also captured in the Arduino. The book is issued to the student and a bookmark is stored in the Ethernet Shield (for maintaining server database) interfaced to Arduino, when the student returning from the library, bookmark  check  by the BARCODE reader and the Arduino checks whether  the book details are valid or not if not valid then buzzer sound will buzz.

TECHNOLOGY:

BARCODE Reader:

A barcode reader also called a price scanner or point-of-sale (POS) scanner is a hand-held or stationary input device used to capture and read information contained in a bar code. A barcode reader consists of a scanner, a decoder (either built-in or external), and a cable used to connect the reader with a computer. Because a barcode reader merely captures and translates the barcode into numbers and/or letters, the data must be sent to a computer so that a software application can make sense of the data. Barcode scanners can be connected to a computer through a serial port, keyboard port, or an interface device called a wedge. A barcode reader works by directing a beam of light across the bar code and measuring the amount of light that is reflected back. (The dark bars on a barcode reflect less light than the white spaces between them.) The scanner converts the light energy into electrical energy, which is then converted into data by the decoder and forwarded to a computer.

ETHERNET SHIELD:

The Arduino Ethernet Shield allows you to easily connect your Arduino to the internet. This shield enables your Arduino to send and receive data from anywhere in the world with an internet connection.

RESULT:

Hence this project with the usage of Smart Cards in Library will provides the security over issuing books to right person and provides a lot of flexibility.
