PASSWORD BASED INDUSTRIAL SECURITY SYSTEM USING BIOMETRICS

PASSWORD BASED INDUSTRIAL SECURITY SYSTEM USING BIOMETRICS

BIOMETRICS means study of life. Biometrics studies commonly include fingerprint, face, iris, voice, signature and hand geometry recognition and verification. Many other modalities are in various stages of development and assessment. Among these available biometric traits, Finger Print proves to be one of the best traits providing good mismatch ratio and also reliable. Fingerprints are widely used as a method of personal authentication because they have the best balance among authentication performance, cost, device size, and ease of use. This project is mostly suitable where absolute security is needed.

A system including electronic, mechanical and optical mechanisms which enable the system to: “read” a human fingerprint directly from a human finger; convert the ridge-valley pattern of that fingerprint into an electronic representation; transmit the electronic representation to a centralized location where image processing computing equipment can locate and extract the distinctive characteristics or minutiae of the fingerprint; compare the minutiae with minutiae previously recorded from the fingerprints of persons whom the system is responsible for identifying; determine whether the identity of the person whose fingerprint is read is known, and, if known, whether or not the person is authorized to enter the portal equipped with this system, or to otherwise act; and, to transmit a signal to the terminal and/or portal regarding the system’s decision.

The project is designed to provide absolute security in industries. The persons who are the employees of the industry have to be registered initially as a sign of authentication.  Thus, the fingerprints of the person will be scanned and saved in the database. A password will be given to the user along with the fingerprint. Thus, whenever the employee tries to enter into the organization, he has to scan his image to prove that he is an authorized person to the organization. Thus, the fingerprint module scans the image and sends it to the microcontroller. The microcontroller reads the image, compares the image with the already stored images in the database.

If the scanned image matches the stored image, the person is asked to enter his password to enter into the company through the main door. The main door will be opened by rotating the stepper motor fixed to it. The door closes automatically after a small delay. If either the fingerprint image or the password is not matched, indication is given to alert the buzzer.
